2000 Mid-Atantic Holiday Bus Fest

It was a bleak looking day. It started off cold, damp and drizzly..and it only got worse. But this didn't stop about 40 or so VW enthusiasts from getting together and having a good time! On Saturday, December 16th, 2000 the sixth annual Bus Fest was held at our house in Silver Spring, MD.

As the weather was pretty awful, I really didn't get a chance to partake of one of my favorite activities - Checking out and photographing what everyone drove to the party. I tried a few pictures, but all I really got were pictures of raindrops with VW's hidden in the background. On the other hand, it gave me the chance to stay inside and catch up with everyone else who braved the weather.

Plenty of the Bus Fest regulars were on hand. The punctuality award goes to Pat Horrocks and Toto who were first to arrive, with Larry and Avery Johnson right behind them. As the party got going, plenty of other familiar faces were on hand such as Tom Forhan and Michelle Moriarty, Rick Koeller, Forrest Minor, Ron, Evon & Haley Salmon, and John Anderson. Steve Dolan and Sean Bartnik from the Type2 list admin staff made it as well. We also had some new long-distance participants - Jamie from Philly, and Paul & Carol from Long Island, NY. I know I met plenty more people that day....so many that it's a blur of names and faces.

Since Maureen and I had been out late the night before, we scurried around trying to take care of party details as even more Bus Fest cam people arrived. I had been setting up a webcam for stationing outdoors, but with all the rain that plan was scrapped. So instead our guests witnessed the amusing scene of me screwing the camera into the living room ceiling. Unfortunately, the auto-archive feature of the webcam couldn't store more that 100 images before it overwrites them (even though I set it to 999), so when I looked at the images after the party, I got plenty of pictures of an empty living room. Only one picture survived, seen here to the left.

Larry and Avery Johnson's Westy
Two couples stayed over the evening for a little driveway camping. Larry and Avery Johnson had a long drive back up to Ontario ahead of them, so they spent the night in their Westy. It rained *hard that night, but the weather started clearing the next morning. Here's a picture of them departing Sunday morning.

Paul and Carol's Westy

Paul and Carol from New York also spent the night in their 197? Westy, along with their dog. They had a good 6-8 hours or so of driving ahead of them as well.

There was room in the driveway for at least 6 more campers, so maybe next year a few more of you can plan on staying over! Thanks to everyone for coming - I hope to see everyone (and some new faces) back at the 2001 Bus Fest in December!
